Take the focus off yourself and put it on your reader or customer...
...with Selfless Marketing.
Far too much writing and marketing is self-aware and self-focused. It sounds like a different language and shows hardly any thought for the reader or customer. It's really meant to impress other writers and creative people.
Worse yet, the all to often naked goal of getting you to buy something is a total turn-off.
On the other hand, you feel great when something seems to be written directly to you and talks to you like a real person. And if you get some valuable information without having to buy anything, the connection is even stronger.
This is what I call Selfless Marketing. And it's a modern approach that has it's roots in the work of some of the pioneers in marketing and advertising. Selfless marketers try to forge relationships with someone before asking them to buy.
Rather than club potential customers over the head with a bunch of hype and half-truths, why not make them loyal partners? You give them information they can use so they see you as a someone credible and trustworthy. You're someone who looks out for their interests, not just your own.
That's the approach I take in my own work as well. So you get:
smart ideas that sell what's really being sold
clear writing with a genuine voice
someone you can work with
